After visiting Carlsbad Cavern
we put together an informational text about Bats.
In this download I also included an interactive notebook.
The text narrates Daniel's experience as he
learns about Bats.
Daniel, the main character, is a boy, nine years old who is Junior Ranger
With funny jokes and lots of hands on activities this unit promises to be
fun and full of learning.
Our day started with reading and finishing our reader comprehension questions.
Then we made some bats out of paper and wrote on their bellies different
facts to remember.
Moving on to our interactive notebook which we completed in no time.
Not only was this easy but also it was a good way for my son to get
creative and since we love coloring and drawing, this was a success.
As you can see my son added a few extras with the sharpies.
He drew the stalactites and stalagmites.
Then, put some extra space to add notes of his own.
I am not really concern in keeping our interactive notebook the way I want it
but really just for my son to feel it is his own unique journal.
On this picture he decided to draw some fruit tree and on the reader above you can
see he got creative in drawing Mega and Micro bats.
Overall this activity was very fun to complete.
It marked the end of our trip to Carlsbad and also a way
of keeping the memory of our experience there.
We also went ahead and decorated our home school classroom with
some of these Bats.
If you wish to use them in your project you may download them at
