Learning about the Baroque Orchestra

The Baroque Orchestra

The Baroque Orchestra

Learning about the Baroque Orchestra. This is an activity I intent to do with my Homeschool kids to help them visualize how the orchestra evolved from one Musical period to the next.
Intructions:
Prepare ahead:
Make cutouts of instruments and talk to the kids about the Baroque Period by showing them a timeline of the time.
Have the students progressively move from the Baroque Orchestra to the Contemporary one. You will need a manila folder for the kids to paste each instrument in the order they sit in the orchestra and have four presentation binders after the project is completed.
You will need glue lots of it.
This activity is very open, you can also talk about composers as you pass through Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary Periods. So improvise!!!!
Have Fun Teaching!!!!
I used this for grades 3rd through 5th and have them do this activity as they listen to the different instrumentation for the Baroque Orchestra. They can do some instrument recognition and it is easier for the kids to remember what they have learned if they have to get their little fingers in glue.
This is a project that I divided in two class sessions as I have my kids do rhythm activities every class.
