Smokey Mountains Camping Trip

We have visited the Smokey Mountains quite a few times.
However, this summer we decided that we wanted
to camp and really
get to know what this park has to offer.

You can watch our video here

Backcountry is one of my favorite things to do.
Not only will you really get to see and learn about habitats and nature.
But,
you can get lucky enough and have some awesome close encounters
with the wild life.

Planning Our Trip

There is much to plan when you backcountry with kids.
Downloading the park's map is one of the most important things.
Not only on your iPhones but a paper copy as well, in case you run
out of battery.
Talking about batteries. you might want to buy a few solar
power batteries for your iPhones.

We had quite a few lights for our tent we charged as we
walked along the trails.

Definitely an awesome idea!!!

Foods

From power snacks, canned foods and army rations.
There is an endless amount of choices out there.
However, you might want to buy things that are high
in calories and energy.

In terms of water.

We purchased a filtered bottle.
This allowed us to carry small amounts of water.
This specific trail was surround by water falls and beautiful cascades.
We were lucky to use our bottle all the time.

We also camped near water sources all the time.
My son carried a bag that had a water pouch inside so he was
hydrating all the way through the walks.

Trail Walking

Water proof and slip resistance shoes are required for this trail.
The trail is moderate but it has quite a few muddy spots and slippery areas.
Along the way a few passages through lop bridges that can be
slippery and dangerous for the light hearted.

In general the walk from one to another camp would be around
5-7 miles uphill or downhill.
Not to mention you must carry all the weight of your
camp gear, clothes and food.

All-together
this is a trail that well planned can be super fun.
As you may rest along the trails and if you wake up early and start
heading to your next camp site you should be right on time
to set your tent and eat some nice cooked meal by the fire.

It was really nice the fact that it got dark around 9:00pm.
Then again this is in the last weeks of July early August.
If you plan this trip on a different season, you will
have different dusk hours.

You may watch our video and hope everyone
tries something similar with their love ones.
